Two Years After Covenant School: A Continuing Crisis of School Safety. As the founder of SITE|SAFETYNET℠, I’ve watched with growing concern as Tennessee continues to grapple with school gun violence. Two years after the devastating Covenant School shooting in Nashville, where six lives were tragically lost, our state remains at a critical crossroads of inaction and urgent need for change.
The Ongoing Threat
The recent shooting in Antioch serves as a stark reminder that our children remain vulnerable. Despite passionate advocacy from survivors, community leaders, and gun safety organizations, Tennessee lawmakers have consistently failed to enact meaningful protective legislation.
Critical Statistics
- Tennessee ranks 12th nationally for gun deaths.
- Nearly 1,200 school gunfire incidents have been documented nationwide since 2015
- Guns remain the leading cause of death for children and teens in Tennessee
What Our Community Is Saying
Community advocates are resolute. As Angela Ferrell-Zabala from Moms Demand Action stated, “We honor these lives by demanding meaningful action to prevent further tragedies.”
The Path Forward
At SITE|SAFETYNET℠, we believe comprehensive school safety requires:
- Supporting Extreme Risk laws
- Implementing evidence-based safety protocols
- Creating robust prevention strategies
Our mission remains unwavering: protecting students through proactive, data-driven safety solutions.
The fight to prevent school gun violence continues. We must act now.
