A Tragic Day at Florida State University. On April 17, tragedy struck the Florida State University campus. One person is confirmed dead, and six more were injured in a shooting near the Student Union. As a safety advocate and founder of SITE|SAFETYNET℠, my heart is heavy, but my resolve is stronger than ever.

FSU issued lockdown alerts. Students ran. Police swarmed the scene. Classes were canceled. Fear gripped the campus.

Among the most heartbreaking revelations: Parkland survivor Jaime Guttenberg’s classmates—now college students—were in the Student Union when the shooting happened. Fred Guttenberg’s words said it all:

“All I ever wanted after Parkland was to help our children be safe. I’m not surprised by what happened today.”

💔 And that’s the problem.

We have normalized the unthinkable. Another school, another lockdown, another round of “thoughts and prayers.”

At SITE|SAFETYNET℠, we believe safety must begin long before tragedy strikes. That’s why we’ve developed:

âś… A proprietary 94-Point School Safety Zone Assessment
✅ Our Dynamic Safety Score (DSS)—real-time scoring for vulnerabilities
âś… Automated SafetyNet|REPORTâ„  updates for school decision-makers
✅ A 4-Level Safety Evaluation framework—turning risk into actionable strategy

We don’t wait for panic buttons to be pressed. We prevent them from ever needing to be.

To the students, families, and first responders at FSU—we see you. We grieve with you. And we are working every day to help prevent the next tragedy.

If you’re an educator, policymaker, or advocate ready to move from reaction to prevention, let’s connect.
