“Enough Is Enough: Two Students Killed Near Booker T. Washington High in Memphis“. What should have been a typical Thursday afternoon turned into another tragic scene of violence in South Memphis — just steps away from a school.

On Thursday, Memphis Police responded to gunfire near Booker T. Washington High School, around 3 p.m., where two high school seniors, both expecting fathers, were shot and killed near the intersection of South Lauderdale and Mississippi Boulevard.

The violence triggered a lockdown at Booker T. Washington High, which was lifted an hour later. But the real damage had already been done.

“It hurts. A lot of parents are out here right now crying. When you say you’re going to buy your baby’s last suit, the mother bought the suit for prom — but she really bought it for a funeral,” said Mary Trice, founder of Ride of Tears, an organization fighting to end youth violence.

Police, investigating near the Cleaborn Pointe at Heritage Landing apartments, promised swift action.
MPD Deputy Chief Webb Kirkdoffer made a public statement:

“We will leave no stone unturned. We will find those responsible, arrest them, and ensure justice is served. Enough is enough.”

The Memphis Police Department echoed the community’s heartbreak across social media:

“Senseless gun violence has no place in our city. We stand united with our community — this will not be tolerated.”

But in reality, the pain goes deeper.

Two more families are grieving. Two more children will grow up without fathers. Another neighborhood is left traumatized. Another school community is mourning when it should be celebrating.

“It’s sad out here. Ain’t nobody doing anything. I’m crying out — go get your kids, go save your baby before you have to bury your baby,” said Trice in a tearful interview with FOX13.

No arrests have been made at this time.
