The Gun Violence Archive reports that as of June 2024, 4,994 people have died due to gun-related incidents. This figure includes various forms of gun violence, such as homicides, suicides, unintentional shootings, and police-involved shootings.

Mass Shootings

In 2024 alone, there have been over 49 mass shootings, defined as incidents where four or more victims are shot or killed. These mass shootings have resulted in more than 80 deaths and over 170 injuries. The deadliest incident so far occurred on January 23 in Joliet, Illinois, where a single suspect’s actions resulted in eight deaths and nine injuries.

Gun violence has been on the rise in the past decade. In 2014, there were 272 mass shootings, a number that more than doubled by 2023, with 656 mass shootings recorded.
